1829 was the birth date of the Laguiole folding knife. The original model is still very close to the current one we all know today. The Aubrac was a vast rural region made up of isolated farmhouses containing several families. The elder members of these households used to leave to go to work in Catalonia during the winter season, as farmhands and mostly as woodcutters. Some of then returned to Rouerge with a Spanish knife (The Navaja) in their pockets. The Laguiole knife has taken its blade shape and slender handle from this Spanish model.
The corkscrew was introduced in 1880. This essential accessory was necessary when the people from Rouerge went off to Paris, hoping to set up as coal merchants or innkeepers.
We offer this corkscrew from Dubost Colas Pradel which was founded in 1920 and continues today under the inspiration of Jean Dubost, the founder's son.
